3829 Monticello Drive, sitting on an expansive double lot, was the first home built on Monticello Drive in 1935. Essentially a 5000 sf main house + 1400 sf guest house, which also includes 941 sf of covered outdoor living space. This tasteful Tudor home is characterized by a steeply pitched gable roof, elaborate masonry chimneys, embellished doorways, groupings of windows and artfully placed window boxes. The current homeowners remodeled the entire home to period and kept the original front door, making one small change by adding a leaded glass window to the upper panel of the door. The window theme was repeated in a series of leaded glass windows along the east façade of the home; giving filtered, natural light to the formal living area. Roger Dobbins was the remodel architect and David Cook the contractor.
The celebrated entry features a winding rectangular stairway containing the original wood balustrades and circular iron supports, the entry also has a soaring ceiling with views to the 2nd level of the home. The 2nd floor view from the front door contains an original architectural element, featuring 3 graceful Moroccan arches, each supported by a plaster beam, with additional focus on an inlaid niche in the receding wall.
The expansive formal living room features a series of leaded glass windows, high ceilings, plaster trim, and hand troweled walls which were painted by Scott Kerr featuring delicate panels of color.
2 beautiful Sconces flank the Italian marble fireplace and distressed oak and glass doors open into the family room.
The family room features a Herringbone wood floor, hand distressed & stained wood paneling, and plaster & distressed wood fireplace. A comfy window seat becomes a quite nest surrounded by window views of the backyard, there is also French door access to a covered flagstone patio for al fresco dining.
The formal dining room features Scott Kerr hand painted walls with botanical details, and above, a fabulous crystal and iron chandelier. In addition, the dining room has floor to ceiling windows and direct access to the kitchen for express service.
The cool, creamy kitchen, remodeled in 2015, contains John Hughes built cabinets with inset doors, self-closing drawers and glass front upper cabinets. The cabinets feature beautiful iron hardware with a silver coating.
